Some of the same natural rules for how learned behavior works can be seen in behavior that has a genetic basis. Sometimes these similarities can be difficult to see because behavior that has a genetic origin requires a much broader view to comprehend. Also, behavior from a genetic history takes much longer to change. The long term nature of genetic change is a critical area of concern when implementing mandatory spay and neuter laws. From our dogs we can learn a great deal about how the behavior of our families affect the behavior of offspring. We can see that some behaviors are passed more easily than others are. We can also see that some behaviors are easier to manage than are others. When we understand these aspects of nature it’ll be easier to understand how the same principles can apply to humanity. When we understand our animal nature we can accept people more easily. When we accept others as a product of their history we can begin to think about what can and can’t be easily changed. When we understand and accept people we can begin to have realistic exceptions of what other people can actually take responsibility for. The [...]

The rules of nature are the most powerful force we can observe. We’re all controlled by the rules of nature, but we do have some control over how the rules affect us. Humans have the ability to change how nature is interpreted and acted on. Although we feel as though we control our behavior with the power of a will, we’re really puppets being pulled by the hand of nature. If humans are to emerge as a sustainable species we’ll need a better understanding of nature. Until we have a better grasp of nature, humanity needs to use what is known about nature to survive long enough for higher human traits to emerge. While science is the study and codification of the rules of nature, most humans are not scientific decision makers. Most humans make decisions based on emotions. Our emotions understand dreams much better than they understand science. And myth is more dreamlike than dry facts and logic. When contemplating a major change in my life I need to consider how I will combine my knowledge of nature to effect the change. How will human nature and my own unique nature help and hinder accomplishing the task? How will [...]

Behavior patterns make it so we don’t need to waist our precious resources of time and energy on decision making. An orientation or behavioral theme makes certain behaviors more reinforcing than others. Our orientation determines what in life we think about and what we work toward. Our orientation determines our goals. Within an individual’s orientation you’ll find their Significant Points of Reference. An individual’s Significant Points of Reference make up the principals they live by and their core beliefs. Even our dogs have Significant Points of Reference. Some dogs are oriented to avoiding people out of fear. These dogs are oriented to their safety needs. Abraham Maslow classified safety as one of the basic needs. Maslow believed that lower basic needs such as safety were made potent by deficiencies. Other dogs are orally oriented and think everything is meant to be chewed. We can see that the orientation in our dogs sets them on a path in life that can have tragic consequences. The fearful dog when encountering strangers is always under stress. Stress eventually will take a toll on the one who hold onto it. The orally oriented dog is much more likely to ingest a life threatening substance. [...]

The dogs’ extraordinary adaptation to humans makes them one of our best windows into nature.
Why is the United States government still using racist labels in the census and elsewhere?

In the United States the labels Black and White have a definite racist overtone. In using these labels on official government correspondence the U.S. government tacitly encourages racism.
